Frequently Asked Questions

When can you bait deer in Quebec?
From 1 September to 30 November only. Outside that period, feeding white-tailed deer is prohibited, with fines from $1,000 to $5,000. Saline substances are the exception: they remain permitted year-round.
Is salt permitted all year?
Yes. Saline substances — loose salt, blocks, salt licks — are not covered by the baiting window. You can build and maintain a lick in any season, which is in fact better: a site established well in advance works harder.
How much corn does one site need for the season?
Budget 6 to 8 25 kg sacks per site for a full season: one sack to establish the site, then regular top-ups depending on pressure. If you're running several sites, come to the counter — we load by the pallet.
Whole corn or cracked corn?
Whole corn is the foundation: it keeps better on the ground and holds a site over time. Cracked works faster because the kernel is open and the scent releases with the first rain, but it doesn't last as long. Open with cracked, maintain with whole.
What game is sulphur for?
Mainly moose. Sulphur is spread on the ground around a lick or wallow — not on the blocks, and not mixed into minerals — and it works best in damp black earth. White-tailed deer use these sites too. In zones 5 ouest and 8 sud, moose is bow and crossbow only.
Can I collect in store?
Yes, pickup is free at West Brome and Bedford, and it's the simplest way to leave with several sacks. Local delivery is also available — the terms are shown at checkout.
F.G. Edwards, a Quebec business since 1928
AN F.G. EDWARDS BRAND

Open since 1928. We know this ground.

F.G. Edwards is a farm and agricultural store in Brome-Missisquoi. We opened in 1928 and we have served the rural community here for nearly a hundred years: farms, woodlot owners, country people — and hunters. Two stores today, West Brome and Bedford.

FRED'S 1928 came from a simple observation. Hunters here had been buying the same corn as our farmers for years, in the same 25 kg sack, with nothing on the sack to say so. We put a name on it, then filled the gaps: a molasses, a sulphur, a flavoured salt.

What that changes for you: farm sizes at farm prices, stock that lasts to the end of November, and two yards where we help you load. Whether you're building a first site or running six, come and see us.

Deer bait and hunting salt in the Eastern Townships

FRED'S 1928 is the bait and salt range from F.G. Edwards, a farm and agricultural store in Brome-Missisquoi since 1928. Whole and cracked corn, liquid molasses, pure sulphur and flavoured salt: the farm sizes Eastern Townships hunters use to build a site and keep it working.

A bait site gets through 6 to 8 25 kg sacks over a season. That is why we sell farm sizes rather than small tubs — the price per kilo follows grain, not outdoor-store packaging.

Baiting white-tailed deer is permitted from 1 September to 30 November. Saline substances — loose salt, blocks and licks — remain permitted year-round, so a lick can be established well before the season. Free pickup at West Brome and Bedford.
