Our grass seed mixes include formulas for full sun, for shaded areas under trees, and all-purpose blends that thrive in both conditions. Grasses like perennial ryegrass, creeping red fescue, and Kentucky bluegrass form the basis of robust lawns in our climate. The best time to sow is late August or early September, when temperatures cool and rainfall increases—or in the spring after the last frost. Avoid sowing in the middle of summer, which is too stressful for young seedlings.
