CANARM - Replacement Bowl for H50 Heated Drinker

The stainless steel bowl on the Canarm H50 is built to last, but replacement is warranted in these situations:

• Visible pitting or corrosion: Although the bowl is stainless steel, high-mineral water, animal saliva, and manure contact over many years can eventually pit the surface, making it harder to clean and creating bacterial harborage sites.
• Physical damage: A large animal kicking or pushing the waterer can dent or crack the bowl — particularly at the drain area or mounting flanges.
• Weld failure: Hairline cracks at the welds (especially near the drain plug) can cause slow leaks that freeze and expand in winter, worsening quickly.
• Persistent contamination: If algae, biofilm, or odour cannot be removed despite thorough cleaning, replacement restores sanitary drinking conditions.

Replacing the bowl is far more economical than replacing the entire waterer — the heating element, thermostat, and insulated body are typically still serviceable when the bowl wears out.

The Canarm replacement bowl for the H50 is specifically designed for units manufactured after 2008. Canarm updated the bowl mounting design in 2008, and the replacement bowl uses this updated specification.

If your H50 was manufactured before 2008, the bowl dimensions or mounting hole pattern may differ. To verify compatibility, check the data plate on your waterer for the manufacture date.

Units manufactured after 2008 represent the vast majority of H50 waterers currently in service — if you purchased your waterer in the last 15+ years, this bowl will be compatible.

Bowl replacement is a straightforward field repair that most farmers can complete without specialized tools:

1. Drain and unplug the waterer — ensure no power and no water before starting.
2. Remove the drain plug and allow any residual water to drain.
3. Disconnect the float/valve assembly — the float arm and valve connect to the bowl's inlet. Note the orientation and photograph before removing.
4. Unbolt the bowl from the waterer body — the bowl is typically secured with 4–6 bolts around the mounting flange.
5. Lift out the old bowl and clean the mounting surface on the waterer body.
6. Set the new bowl in place and align the mounting holes. Apply a thin bead of food-safe RTV sealant around the flange perimeter if the old gasket has deteriorated.
7. Torque the bolts evenly in a cross pattern to ensure a watertight seal.
8. Reconnect the float/valve assembly, reinstall the drain plug, and refill to test for leaks.
