About Fruit and vegetables
Fruiting vegetables are at the heart of the Quebec summer vegetable garden. Tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, melons, beans and peas: FG Edwards offers a wide selection of fruiting vegetable seeds chosen for their adaptation to the Quebec seasons of the Eastern Townships, including early varieties that maximize production despite our short growing season.
Most heat-loving fruiting vegetables, such as tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants, require starting seeds indoors 6 to 10 weeks before the last frost—usually between mid-March and mid-April in our region. Cucumber, zucchini, and bean seeds, which are easier and faster to grow, can be sown directly outdoors after the last May frost. For each fruiting vegetable, you'll find high-yielding hybrid varieties and open-pollinated heirloom varieties, ideal for gardeners who want to save their own seeds from year to year.
