What is corn gluten meal and how does it prevent weeds?
Corn gluten is a natural by-product of corn processing. It contains proteins that inhibit root development in germinating seeds. It does not affect established plants — only new weed growth such as dandelions and crabgrass.
When to apply corn gluten in Quebec?
In spring: mid-April to mid-May, before weeds germinate (when forsythias bloom is a good indicator). In fall: late August to mid-September, to prevent autumn germination. Two applications per year yield the best results.
How much for my lawn?

No - gluten prevents ALL germination, including grass seed. Wait 5 to 6 weeks after application before overseeding. Plan your overseeding for the fall if you apply gluten in the spring.
