VOTRE RECOMMANDATION

OMBRE

TERRAIN OMBRE is for you

For areas where the sun doesn't shine directly, we've selected shade-tolerant fescues and bluegrasses. Your lawn will grow where generic mixtures give up.

SOLEIL

TERRAIN SOLEIL is for you

For exposed facades and open terrain, this mix prioritizes species resistant to intense UV and Quebec's summer heat.

ARIDE

TERRAIN ARIDE is for you

For sandy soils or areas you don't water, this mix favors deep-rooted species that tolerate drought.

VIVANT

TERRAIN VIVANT is for you

For lawns that see a lot of traffic (children, dogs, games), this mix tolerates trampling and regenerates quickly after wear and tear.

PRAIRIE

TERRAIN PRAIRIE is for you

The versatile mix for a classic Quebec lawn. Good balance of density, color, and resistance.

GOLF

TERRAIN GOLF is for you

For owners aiming for an immaculate lawn: bentgrass and fine fescues, close-cropped, fairway-style finish. More demanding to maintain, but the results are visible.

WHY TERRAIN

What makes TERRAIN different

  • Six specialized blends

No all-purpose that does everything by halves. Each blend is formulated for its specific purpose: dense shade, full sun, dry soil, high traffic, classic lawn, or fairway-style finish.

  • Formulated in Quebec

Species and proportions adapted to Quebec's climate, soils, and seasonal cycle. Not an American formula replicated north of the 45th parallel.

  • Free Semer app

Our app tells you when to sow in your area, based on your exact zip code, the weather, and the requirements of your mix. Bilingual, free.

  • F.G. Edwards since 1928

Almost a hundred years of advising Quebecers on their land. In-store team six days a week to answer your questions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The questions we are asked

How to choose between the six blends?

Three approaches: the six-condition grid (at the top of the page) for a quick choice, the three-question quiz for guided recommendation, or the product grid to compare mixtures side-by-side. When in doubt, call us: the in-store team knows all six mixtures and can guide you based on your specific soil.

What is the difference between TERRAIN and a hardware seed?

Three main differences: 1) TERRAIN is formulated for Quebec's climate (species and proportions adapted to the freeze-thaw cycle and local soils), not a generic North American formula. 2) Six specialized blends instead of one all-purpose blend. 3) A free app (Semer) that tells you when to sow in your area, based on your postal code.

When is the right time to sow in Quebec?

Two main windows: spring (mid-April to mid-June) and fall (mid-August to mid-October). Fall is generally the best time for a new lawn in Quebec. For the exact window based on your postal code and mix, consult the TERRAIN Seeding app.

How much seed for my plot?

Each product page indicates the sowing rate and coverage per kilo for the mixture in question. As a general rule: allow approximately 1 kg for 30 to 40 m² for a new lawn, and 1 kg for 60 to 80 m² for overseeding. The in-store team can help you calculate the exact quantity based on the dimensions of your plot.

Do you deliver to Quebec? How much is shipping?

Free local delivery on purchases of $95 or more, within a 40 km radius of West Brome. Free in-store pickup in West Brome and Bedford, six days a week. For deliveries outside the area, contact us for an estimate.

What is your return policy?

30-day satisfaction guarantee on unopened bags. Return the bag to West Brome or Bedford within 30 days for a full refund. Opened bags or seeds that have already been spread are not returnable.

How long until my lawn grows?

Germination: 7 to 21 days depending on the mix, soil temperature, and moisture. Established lawn (full density and tolerance): 6 to 10 weeks. Autumn plantings reach full density the following spring.

Can I sow in mid-summer?

Summer is the riskiest window in Quebec (intense heat, drought). If you must sow in the summer, ARIDE is your best ally thanks to its drought tolerance. For other mixtures, wait for the autumn window (mid-August to mid-October).

A F.G. EDWARDS BRAND

TERRAIN, that's our commitment to Quebec turf

F.G. Edwards has been serving the Eastern Townships since 1928. Four generations advising Quebec farmers, ranchers, and homeowners on the right materials for their projects. West Brome at the core, Bedford as a second store, and our team delivers within a 40 km radius.

TERRAIN is our in-house line of grass seeds. We created it because we were tired of seeing Quebecers sow mixtures formulated for Kentucky or southern Ontario, and then wonder why their lawn doesn't survive the winter. Six mixtures, each specialized for a real-world condition in Quebec.

And because we know the value of good timing, we built the TERRAIN Sowing app: free, bilingual, and accurate for your postal code. If you have a question about the right mix, the right time, or the right quantity, give us a call or stop by the store. That's what has set us apart for almost a hundred years.
