Dominion Veterinary Laboratories (Domvet) 7% Iodine Tincture (often labelled "7% More Concentrated Iodine Tincture") is a veterinary antiseptic and germicide widely used in Canada. It is designed for topical application on livestock and companion animals, including horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, and dogs.

Main features and uses

• Antiseptic application: It is used to disinfect superficial wounds, cuts, grazes, insect bites and minor bruises.
• Post-operative care (navel/castration): It is specifically used for the treatment of umbilical stumps in newborns and for post-surgical care such as tail docking or castration.
• Skin preparation: Used to disinfect skin areas before injections or surgical procedures.
• Counter-irritant: Used to treat chronic inflammatory conditions.
• Formulation: Iodine and alcohol-based formula.

Application and safety instructions

Directions: Apply locally to the affected area. For repeated applications, dilute with 3 parts water.

Restrictions: Do not use on deep wounds, burns, or body cavities.

Precautions: Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. If redness, irritation, or swelling persists or worsens, discontinue use and consult a veterinarian.

Safety: Toxic at moderate to high doses (> 0.5 g/kg).
