Why use a flexible hose to connect my Canarm waterer instead of rigid pipe?
The Canarm H0-G4958 flexible hose is designed specifically for the connection between rigid supply plumbing and the waterer's fill valve. Flexible hose is preferred over rigid pipe in this application for several reasons:
- Vibration absorption: Animals pushing and bumping the waterer transmit vibration to the plumbing. Flexible hose absorbs this movement; rigid pipe connection transmits it directly to threaded fittings, eventually cracking them.
- Installation flexibility: Rigid pipe must align perfectly. Flexible hose allows the waterer to be positioned slightly off-axis from the supply pipe without stress on fittings.
- Freeze damage mitigation: Flexible hose can accommodate slight expansion if water freezes in the line during a power outage. Rigid pipe connections may crack under the same pressure.
- Serviceability: Disconnecting and reconnecting for annual cleaning or repairs is faster and easier with flexible hose than with rigid connections.
Does the H0-G4958 hose include fittings, or are they sold separately?
The Canarm H0-G4958 flexible hose comes complete with fittings pre-installed at both ends for direct connection to the standard Canarm waterer inlet and a standard supply line. You will not need to source separate compression fittings or barb adapters for a straightforward installation.
The fittings are designed to connect to:
- The H0-P4300 fill valve on the waterer end
- A standard 3/8" or 1/2" supply line on the barn plumbing end (verify the fitting size for your specific model)
For installations with non-standard supply line sizes, brass elbows (H0523) and fittings (H0524) available at F.G. Edwards can be used to adapt the connection.
