Key requirements: an enclosure at least 1.2 m tall, openings that do not let a 10 cm sphere through, and a self-closing, self-latching gate. Newer pools must already comply. Your municipality may require more.

Against predators
A raccoon cannot pull a hen through a 1 in mesh. Bury an 8 to 12 in apron bent outward in an L against diggers. Against weasels and mink, which slip through small openings, use 1/2 in hardware cloth.
Coop and run
For the bottom of the walls, the buried apron and the roof of a coop, where predators attack. The upper walls can be 2 in x 2 in mesh or poultry netting.

Choosing the mesh and the height
Mesh first, by what must stay out: 2 in x 4 in for a garden, a dog or a perimeter; 2 in x 2 in for small animals and the coop; 1 in x 1 in for a pool and against predators. Then height: 3 to 4 ft for a garden, 4 ft for a medium dog, 5 to 6 ft for a large dog or a perimeter, 4 ft minimum for a pool.
Coating. Hot-dip galvanized: the wire is coated with zinc, which protects the steel from rust. Cut ends carry less zinc: file them or apply cold-galvanizing paint.
Installation
Installing it in 4 steps
1Plan
Measure the perimeter. Count one post every 8 feet, plus two posts for the corners.
Avoid: Don't measure diagonally. The mesh follows the fence line, not the straight line.
2Drive the posts
Drive the T-posts about 18 inches into the ground with the post driver.
Avoid: Don't drive the posts less than 18 inches deep. They will tip in the first strong wind.
3Unroll the mesh
Unroll the mesh along the posts. Anchor the first corner firmly before tensioning.
Avoid: Don't unroll without anchoring the first corner. The mesh springs back and bends.
4Secure
Tie the mesh to each post with galvanized wire. Tension between posts to avoid sagging.
Avoid: Don't over-tension the mesh. It can bend or break the tie wire.

Frequently asked questions
What height is compliant with the pool regulation?
The minimum height required by Quebec regulation is 1.2 m (about 4 feet). Our 4'x100' mesh matches this minimum exactly. Check your municipality's specific requirements, which may be stricter.
Is the 1x1 mesh really compliant?
The 1x1 (2.5 cm) mesh size meets the 10 cm sphere rule. Full compliance also depends on height (1.2 m minimum), the gate (self-closing and self-latching), and your municipality's specific rules. Consult your municipality before installing.
Does the Quebec regulation apply to my pool?
The Quebec Residential Pool Safety Regulation applies to all pools, including those installed before 2010. Pre-2010 pool owners have until September 30, 2027 to comply.
Is a compliant gate also required?
Yes. The regulation requires a self-closing, self-latching gate opening away from the pool, with the latching device at least 1.5 m above the ground. The gate matters as much as the fence for compliance.
What's the difference vs the 2x4 mesh?
The 1x1 mesh (2.5 cm × 2.5 cm) is significantly tighter than the 2x4 (5 cm × 10 cm). It blocks small animals and predators that 2x4 lets through, and meets the pool regulation that 2x4 doesn't. The trade-off: more expensive and heavier.
Which predators does this mesh block?
Raccoons, weasels, ermines, mink, raptors, snakes. It does not block mice or very small rodents.
How do I install a buried skirt for a chicken run?
Bury 8 to 12 inches of L-shaped mesh at the base of the fence, bent outward. This skirt prevents predators from digging under to get in.
How many posts for 100 ft?
14 posts recommended: one every 8 feet, plus 2 for corners. The Sentinel installation kit includes the right quantity and post height for your roll.
Does a chicken run need a ceiling?
Recommended. Raptors, squirrels, and climbing raccoons can enter an open enclosure. A 1x1 mesh ceiling or sturdy netting provides 360-degree protection.
Can I install on existing wooden posts?
Yes. Use galvanized staples or tie wire. The technique is the same as with T-posts.
The 1x1 mesh is heavy: how is delivery handled?
The 3 ft and 4 ft rolls weigh 53 kg and 71 kg. Local delivery is free on orders of $95 or more before taxes, on your area's delivery day (Tuesday to Thursday): enter your postal code below the add to cart button to see it. How do I join two rolls?
Overlap the two ends by 4 to 6 inches on a shared post, then tie them with galvanized wire every 6 inches.
How do I cut the mesh cleanly?
With tin snips or heavy-duty wire cutters, perpendicular to the wire. File the ends if needed.
